Sustainability

We believe that sustainability is about more than just making our suits from recycled materials - it's also about making products that will last. That's why we take the time to ensure our swimwear will last for years to come, not just one or two seasons.

We use the highest quality fabrics and threads that are chlorine and saltwater resistant and will not fade in the sun. Construction details such as continuous band straps that evenly distribute tension and reinforced stitching at stress points also help ensure the longevity of our swimwear.

Our fabrics

None of our fabrics contain PFAS, BPA, or any other dangerous chemicals. Our three swimwear fabrics are:

  • Recycled Foreverever® is our new long lasting fabric we use for our training suits. It is the highest quality and most durable swimwear fabric on the market. It's tight-knit construction makes it compressive and prevents it from stretching out over time, making it perfect for competitive swimming and water sports, even the most extreme ones. We are committed to completely replacing our original Foreverever® fabric with Recycled Foreverever® by the end of 2024. 51% of the fiber in this polyester fabric comes from recycled water bottles.
  • SeaFlex and SurfTec are used for our Surf swimwear. These fabrics are super soft and breathable with a unique mix of muscular compression and comfort and are twice as resistant to chlorine and suntan creams and oils than competitors’ fabrics. Both fabrics are made from 78% ECONLY® regenerated nylon and 22% Elastin. ECONYL® yarn is a 100% regenerated nylon fiber made from nylon waste otherwise polluting the Earth, like fishing nets, carpet flooring and industrial plastic rescued from all over the world. Through a radical regeneration and purification process, the nylon waste is recycled right back to its original purity. That means ECONYL® regenerated nylon is exactly the same as fossil-based nylon and has the potential to be recycled infinitely, without ever losing its quality.

Environmental and Ethical Standards

All our swimwear fabrics are made in knitting mills that meet Global Recycled Standards (GRS). Our two main sewing facilities are WRAP certified ensuring:

  • Compliance with laws against forced, trafficked, or child labor
  • Fair payment of wages
  • 8 hour work days with lunch and rest breaks
  • On site medical care
  • Commitment to environmentally responsible production

Our third, smaller, sewing facility is within a three-hour drive from our office. We conduct monthly inspections to ensure that it adheres to ethical and environmental best practices including fair pay and work hours, best possible energy efficient production and use of left over fabric scraps.

Packaging Standards

Our outer shipping packaging is produced from compostable vegetable matter such as corn or potato starch and will fully break down into compost in 12 months.

As of 2023, the inner packaging sleeve used to keep swimwear clean and organized in our warehouse is made from recycled plastic. We continue to search for better alternatives to recycled plastic.

Partnerships

Since 2020, JOLYN has supported organizations including Surfrider Foundation, whose mission is to protect the world’s ocean.

For 2023, we are a proud sponsor of the Changing Tides Foundation whose mission is to empower women to protect the planet. The Changing Tides Foundation helps implement community solutions that promote gender equity, social justice, and ocean health.
Our sponsorship is focused on the Changing Tides Foundation's WOMP (Women's Outreach Mentorship Program) to work with underserved teen girls through mentorship, surfing & education. Past WOMP programs around the world have proved that forming a meaningful relationship with the ocean and surfing can create a lasting impression on a young woman’s life forever.
